Thyroid cancer risks highlighted by aggressive case in China

Medical experts are warning about the rising prevalence and potential aggression of thyroid cancer. While often referred to as ‘happy cancer’ due to generally favorable prognoses, certain undifferentiated forms are highly malignant, with an average survival rate of only six months.

A case study from Ningbo University Hospital in China highlights this danger: a 35-year-old woman initially ignored a painless 1cm lump, which rapidly grew to 5cm in just 60 days, causing severe respiratory distress.

According to GLOBOCAN 2022 data, there are over 821,000 new thyroid cancer cases globally each year. In Vietnam, the disease is increasing significantly, with women being three times more likely to be diagnosed than men. Doctors advise avoiding certain lifestyle habits, such as frequent late-night staying awake, to help reduce risks.
