Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum presents Kenny Scharf exhibition

The Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid has launched a new exhibition featuring the work of American artist Kenny Scharf. The showcase is part of a series dedicated to the collection of Blanca and Borja Thyssen-Bornemisza, who recently acquired Scharf’s 2023 painting, ‘Junglematic’.

Scharf, an artist closely associated with the 1980s New York East Village scene and a protégé of Andy Warhol, is known for a pop surrealist style influenced by classic cartoons. His work often features colorful, playful characters referred to as ‘blobs’.

Beyond his urban and pop aesthetics, the exhibition highlights Scharf’s engagement with nature and environmental awareness. The collection includes depictions of trees, plants, and molecular structures, reflecting the artist's ecological consciousness developed from his upbringing in California.
