ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems begins 212CD submarine program operations
ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) has entered the operational phase of the 212CD submarine program, a trilateral cooperation involving Germany, Norway, and Canada. A planning meeting in Kiel recently brought together representatives from TKMS, Kongsberg, and Multiconsult to advance the project.
This development follows TKMS being selected as the preferred bidder for Canada’s Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP), which could include up to twelve submarines. While the company has raised its annual forecasts and maintains an order backlog of 20.1 billion euros as of late June, management has noted potential operational risks. The rapid expansion required to fulfill these large-scale contracts poses challenges for personnel, supply chains, and the ability to maintain production quality and speed across parallel programs.
