ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems proposes European partnerships for Canada submarine deal

ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) CEO Oliver Burkhard has proposed partnering with other European shipyards to accelerate the delivery schedule for Canada’s upcoming submarine fleet.

During meetings in Ottawa, Burkhard indicated interest in collaborating with Spanish submarine manufacturer Navantia to produce specific parts or sections of the vessels, though he noted Navantia would not build entire boats. The CEO also suggested that other shipyards seeking contracts might eventually find opportunities within Canada.

TKMS was named the preferred bidder by the Canadian government in July for a program intended to purchase up to 12 submarines to replace the nation's existing fleet.
