Čti za nároďák! launches nationwide tour to promote reading
The 'Čti za nároďák!' initiative is launching a nationwide tour across the Czech Republic to promote reading for pleasure and combat the perception of reading as a mere school obligation. The campaign aims to connect experts, libraries, schools, and the public through a series of events in cities including Liberec, Hradec Králové, Brno, Olomouc, and Ústí nad Labem.
Experts emphasize that when reading becomes a tool for control or performance, such as through mandatory reading diaries, children lose interest. Research indicates a strong link between reading for enjoyment and academic success; 68% of high-achieving students view reading as fun, compared to only 20% of lower-achieving students. Furthermore, children who read for pleasure often show better progress in mathematics, memory, concentration, and psychological well-being.
The tour will feature professional forums for educators and parents, practical methodologies for schools developed by Nina Rutová, and interactive activities for children led by Jakub Kohák. The program seeks to integrate reading into daily life as a natural activity, similar to sports, rather than a chore.
