Benfica defeats Vitória SC 2-0 to reclaim second place
Benfica secured a 2-0 victory against Vitória SC at the Estádio da Luz during the eighth round of the Primeira Liga. The win allows the Lisbon-based club to return to second place in the standings, remaining five points behind league leaders FC Porto.
Samuel Dahl opened the scoring in the 24th minute with a clinical finish following a combination with Vangelis Pavlidis. He scored his first goal for the club at the Luz stadium. Heorhii Sudakov sealed the result in the 75th minute, marking his first goal in nearly ten months.
Vitória SC manager Tiago Margarido expressed frustration following the match, stating that while his team improved in the second half and made the game competitive, the second goal was “unjust” and demoralized his players. Vitória SC currently sits in 14th place with five points from eight matches.
Benfica manager Marco Silva noted the importance of the collective performance, especially considering the physical fatigue of several players returning from international duty. The victory serves as a crucial bounce-back for Benfica after their recent defeat against FC Porto.
