Tiago Scheuer adopts inverted sleep schedule to anchor Brazil's early‑morning news

Tiago Scheuer, who took over the anchor desk of TV Globo’s overnight news program “Hora 1” in October, has completely reversed his daily routine to meet the demands of a broadcast that airs at 4 a.m. He goes to bed around 5 p.m., sleeps in a darkened room, and wakes at about 12:20 a.m. After a quick shower he prepares a simple breakfast of espresso and scrambled eggs, then heads to the studio for a 1:20 a.m. editorial meeting, news review and recording of the bulletin. The program runs through the early hours, and Scheuer is released shortly after it ends, after a final meeting. He avoids daytime naps and refrains from drinking coffee after 11 a.m. to protect his main rest period. On weekends he relaxes the schedule, sometimes taking a morning nap on Fridays and sleeping later on Saturdays and Sundays, noting that his body has adapted to the new rhythm. Scheuer says the unconventional schedule has been rewarding despite the challenges.
