Tiangong Space Station introduces specialized orbital cooking equipment
Astronauts aboard China’s Tiangong space station have received upgraded culinary equipment, including the first air fryer specifically designed for use in orbit. The new device features a specialized steam elimination system to prevent moisture from dispersing within the station’s microgravity environment.
In addition to the air fryer, the station’s kitchen has been renovated with a microwave designed to prevent leaks and minimize energy consumption, as well as a water dispenser. These upgrades aim to allow taikonauts to prepare hot meals, such as chicken wings, steaks, and pastries, in approximately 20 minutes.
The nutritional program has also expanded, offering a rotating 10-day menu consisting of roughly 200 ingredients. Available food items include fresh vegetables, meats, nuts, and even yogurt that can be fermented directly on the station. The Tiangong station is intended to remain operational for at least a decade.
