Tianguis Sombrerete receives health and smoke-free certification

Tianguis Sombrerete has become the first established market in Querétaro to receive certification as a ‘Favorable Health Environment’ and ‘100% Free of Tobacco Smoke and Emissions’. The recognition follows three years of coordinated efforts between health authorities and the Federation of Merchants, Local Established Tenants, and Service Providers (FECOPSE).

Key measures implemented to achieve the certification include mandatory hand washing, hygienic food preparation, maintaining orderly aisles, and the total elimination of tobacco smoke exposure. The process involved health surveys of workers and evaluations of facilities and civil protection requirements.

State officials, including Secretary of Government Eric Gudiño Torres and Secretary of Health María Martina Pérez Rendón, led the ceremony. They emphasized that these practices aim to prevent disease, ensure safe commercial spaces, and promote healthy habits for both vendors and consumers.
