Tibetan activists protest against China during BRICS Summit in India

Tibetan activists held protests in India during the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, targeting the presence of Chinese President Xi Jinping. In Mysuru, members of the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress (RTYC) conducted a rally to urge BRICS member nations to address alleged human rights violations, forced displacement, and the erosion of Tibetan cultural identity in China.

In New Delhi, police detained over 50 members of the Tibetan Youth Congress during demonstrations against the Chinese delegation and President Xi's participation in summit events at Bharat Mandapam. These actions follow recent arrests of Students for a Free Tibet (SFT) members in the capital.

Protesters also raised environmental concerns regarding the Tibetan Plateau. RTYC leadership criticized China for a lack of transparency concerning large-scale dam and infrastructure projects on transboundary rivers, calling for multilateral environmental monitoring to manage the ‘Water Tower of Asia’ more effectively.
