Tibetan communities mark 67th National Uprising Day in Australia and India

Tibetan communities and supporters marked the 67th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising Day through various observances in Dharamshala and across Australia.

In Dharamshala, an Australian-Chinese delegation participated in events organized by the Central Tibetan Administration to honor the 90th birth year of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The delegation, which included journalist Cheng Lei and artist Badiu Cao, met with the Dalai Lama and engaged with the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile and the Sikyong. The visit included an art exhibition titled ‘Snow Lion, Sun’ focusing on themes of censorship and human rights in China.

In Australia, hundreds gathered at Parliament House in Canberra to commemorate the uprising. The event, organized by the Australian Tibetan National Association and the Australia Tibet Council, received cross-party support from federal parliamentarians. Speakers called for the closure of state-run boarding schools in Tibet and emphasized that the Chinese government should not interfere in the reincarnation process of the Dalai Lama. Similar peaceful protests were held in Sydney, Victoria, Queensland, Newcastle, and the Blue Mountains.
