Tiburcio García, legendary Mexican boxing trainer, dies

The boxing community is mourning the death of renowned Mexican trainer Tiburcio García, who passed away on Friday, August 28. García was a highly influential figure in both Mexican and international boxing, credited with helping develop numerous world champions throughout a career that began in 1985.

During his tenure, García worked alongside Hall of Fame trainer Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Beristáin and was part of the teams for legendary fighters including Gilberto Román, Daniel Zaragoza, Humberto ‘Chiquita’ González, and the Márquez brothers. He also contributed to the training of notable fighters such as Erik ‘Terrible’ Morales, Jorge ‘Travieso’ Arce, and José Luis Castillo.

His impact extended globally; in Japan, he supported the preparation of world champions Hiroki Ioka and Keiji Yamaguchi at the Green Tsuda Gym. The World Boxing Council (WBC) and its president, Mauricio Sulaimán, expressed their deepest condolences, recognizing García as a pillar of the boxing family and a dedicated mentor to hundreds of amateur and professional fighters.
