Switzerland implements various road safety and enforcement measures
Swiss authorities are implementing various measures to enhance road safety across different regions. In Ticino, the Cantonal Police and municipal forces have announced a week of mobile and semi-stationary speed controls from October 5 to October 11, 2026, targeting high-risk areas including Bellinzona, Lugano, and Locarno.
On the A3 motorway near Lake Walen, the Federal Roads Office (ASTRA) is responding to an increase in wrong-way drivers. Authorities reported 23 incidents by late September, noting that the unusual lane configuration near the lake may contribute to the issue. Automated alarms in the Quarten Tunnel now alert police and dispatch patrols to intercept drivers.
Additionally, police in Central Switzerland are issuing warnings regarding wildlife collisions, particularly during twilight hours. Drivers are advised to reduce speed and avoid sudden evasive maneuvers to prevent accidents. In a separate incident on the A13, an 18-year-old driver was intercepted by police for excessive speeding, resulting in the seizure of the vehicle.
