Ticino police to conduct speed controls across multiple districts
The Ticino Cantonal Police and municipal police forces have announced a series of mobile and semi-stationary speed controls scheduled for week 37, running from September 7 to September 13, 2026. These measures are part of a traffic safety prevention initiative aimed at reducing accidents caused by excessive speed.
Mobile controls will take place across several districts, including Bellinzona, Leventina, Locarno, Lugano, Mendrisio, Riviera, and Vallemaggia. Specific municipalities identified for mobile checks include Arbedo Bellinzona, Castione Giubiasco, Monte Carasso, Lavorgo, Verscio, Breganzona, Cadro, Cassarate, Melide, Origlio, Porza, Pregassona, Sonvico, Sorengo, Vezia, Viganello, Balerna, Capolago, Novazzano, Chiasso, Ligornetto, Morbio Inferiore, Biasca, Cevio, and Gordevio. Semi-stationary controls are planned for Claro and Stabio.
The announced schedule excludes measurements conducted by unmarked police vehicles and laser pistol checks, which are reserved for combating serious violations of road traffic laws. Additionally, these specific scheduled controls do not apply to the highway network. The police noted that unannounced checks may still be conducted by the Cantonal Police in exceptional circumstances to ensure public safety.
