Ticino sees tourism increase as travelers avoid Como

The Canton of Ticino is experiencing a significant influx of tourists from the Italian city of Como. Data shows that through the end of June, arrivals and overnight stays in Ticino increased by 4% compared to the previous year.

Industry experts suggest this shift is driven by travelers seeking refuge from the congestion and high prices in Como. Federico Haas, president of HôtellerieSuisse in Sottoceneri, noted that visitors are turning to Ticino to find a quieter environment when Como becomes unmanageable due to overtourism.

This phenomenon is linked to Como's increased international visibility, which began following celebrity interest and has been sustained by the arrival of major international hotel chains. The high cost of accommodation during peak season in Como is also pushing travelers toward the Swiss territory.
