Tiel coalition formation collapses as PRO withdraws

The coalition formation process in Tiel has collapsed following the decision by the PRO party to withdraw from negotiations. The withdrawal was prompted by the party's refusal to actively cooperate with Forum voor Democratie (FvD).

Under the proposed arrangement, PRO, CDA, and D66 would have formed a new municipal executive with the support of FvD. While FvD would not have provided an alderman, their three seats would have provided the necessary majority to reach 15 of the 27 council seats. This configuration would have made Tiel the only municipality in the Netherlands where FvD played a role in the local administration.

PRO officials stated that the party does not want to create the impression of working together with FvD. While PRO remains supportive of the 'Program of Tiel,' they believe a new phase of exploration is required to determine how a strong local government can be achieved without this specific partnership. Reports also indicate that D66 has withdrawn from the formation talks.
