Tiel fruit parade transitions to stationary festival

The annual Fruitcorso in Tiel has transitioned into a fruit festival, replacing the traditional moving parade with stationary fruit artworks. This change follows approximately 70 years of tradition dating back to 1961.

Organizers cited rising costs, particularly regarding safety requirements such as fencing and traffic controllers, as the primary reason for the shift. Moving from a parade to stationary displays resulted in a cost saving of 200,000 euros. Additionally, the organization faced challenges in securing enough volunteers.

Despite some local nostalgia for the moving floats, organizers noted that the new format allows for more theatrical storytelling around the artworks. The festival also includes a ‘By Night’ version featuring light displays.
