Étienne Bacrot and Sophie Milliet win French Chess Championships

Étienne Bacrot and Sophie Milliet have secured titles at the 2026 French Chess Championships held in Vichy.

Bacrot claimed his ninth national championship title, extending his record. After a series of competitive matches, including a semi-final against Laurent Fressinet that required rapid tiebreaks, Bacrot faced Maxime Lagarde in the final. Following the classical games, Bacrot won both rapid tiebreak games to secure a 2-0 victory.

In the women's division, Sophie Milliet earned her seventh national title, marking her first championship win since 2017.
