Tiergartentunnel in Berlin faces nighttime closures due to staff shortages

The Tiergartentunnel in Berlin will continue to face nighttime closures from Monday to Thursday due to a shortage of monitoring personnel. The Senate Department for Transport reported that only five out of eight required positions are currently filled, with two employees being out due to long-term illness.

Finding suitable staff has proven difficult due to the technical complexity of the role, which requires expertise in monitoring, ventilation, and other tunnel technical systems, compounded by a general shortage of skilled workers. Recruitment interviews are scheduled for this month.

The ADAC has called for a reliable solution, noting that this critical north-south connection should not be subject to recurring closures. The organization emphasized the need for better planning security for motorists, including early information and clear signage during these disruptions.
