Tierp named best outdoor municipality in Uppsala County

Tierp has been named the best outdoor municipality in Uppsala County according to the ‘Sweden’s Outdoor Municipality 2026’ report. Uppsala Municipality ranked second in the county, followed by Östhammar.

Enköping was recognized as the county’s most improved municipality over the last three years. The report, based on a survey of 219 municipalities, highlights the importance of local planning, information, and cooperation in promoting outdoor activities.

Friluftsfrämjandet noted that the initiative is critical for public health, as 84 percent of children in the county do not meet the recommended one hour of daily physical activity. To support outdoor life, the organization has proposed that the next government reintroduce mandatory outdoor days in schools, double funding for leader-led outdoor activities, and increase LONA grants for infrastructure and planning.
