Tierra del Fuego and Chile strengthen disaster risk management
Under the binational “Zona Austral Resiliente” project, the Government of Tierra del Fuego and Chile’s SENAPRED (Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica Region) are conducting technical exchanges to strengthen disaster response. The initiative focuses on improving prevention and community integration regarding seismic and tsunami risks in the shared region.
Technical teams conducted field visits to Puerto Almanza to evaluate vulnerabilities, evacuation routes, and emergency infrastructure in Ushuaia, including the 911 Emergency Center and the Volunteer Firefighters Headquarters. A major coastal evacuation drill is scheduled for November in Ushuaia, with subsequent drills planned for Tolhuin and Río Grande to unify technical criteria and contingency plans.
