Tierra del Fuego announces 2026/2027 sport fishing season

The sport fishing season in Tierra del Fuego is scheduled to begin on Friday, October 30, and will run until May 2, 2027, according to Resolution 259/26 issued by the provincial Secretariat of Environment.

Permitted fishing modalities include spinning (cuchara) and flycasting. Regulations specify that until March 1, 2027, anglers may keep one specimen per day. From that date onward, the mandatory catch-and-release policy will apply to all captured fish, except in specific sectors with unique provisions.

Permit fees for Argentine residents are set at $90,000 for the full season, $39,000 for three days, and $26,000 for a single day. Adolescents aged 13 to 17 may obtain permits for $20,000, while children under 12, retirees, pensioners, and persons with disabilities are exempt from fees. Foreign visitors face different rates, with daily permits at $78,000 and full-season options at $260,000.

Authorities have issued recommendations to wash and disinfect all equipment before entering waterways to prevent the spread of Didymo, an invasive algae species. Permits and sector reservations must be managed through the Sistema de Administración de Permisos de Pesca (SAPTDF).
