Tierra del Fuego companies complete food waste reduction program
The Secretariat of Productive Development and SMEs in Tierra del Fuego has concluded the second edition of its program aimed at reducing food loss and waste within the local agro-food sector. Over a six-month period, six companies—Asia Gourmet, Prana Restaurante del Hotel Albatros, A&S Alimentación y Servicios SRL, Hotel Altos de Ushuaia, Paso Garibaldi Restó, and Cerro Castor—received technical assistance to optimize production processes and increase efficiency.
Supported by the consultancy Vesicabiz, the initiative focused on identifying specific points in the production chain where waste occurs. According to Carolina Hernández, Secretary of Productive Development and SMEs, the program allowed businesses to review work standards, internal team connections, and even explore the development of new products.
The program, funded by the Federal Investment Council (CFI), also included three public training sessions covering waste measurement and action plan development. The initiative followed international standards, such as FSSC 22000, to promote sustainable practices and improve product quality across the regional supply chain.
