Tierra del Fuego: Deteriorating conditions on National Route 3
Significant pavement deterioration has been reported on National Route 3 in Tierra del Fuego, posing increased risks to travelers. Numerous potholes have been identified in several sectors, particularly between Río Ewan Norte and Arroyo Los Mineros (kilometers 2898 to 2905), as well as in the stretches between Río Grande and Puente Justicia and between San Sebastián and Río Grande.
The condition of the road is exacerbated by winter weather, including ice, frost, fog, and high humidity, which reduce visibility and traction. National Road Authorities have advised caution and recommended the use of winter tires and chains for heavy vehicles. Because Route 3 serves as the primary land connection for the province, linking Río Grande, Tolhuin, and Ushuaia, the damage affects essential daily, productive, and tourist transit.
