Tierra del Fuego gender rights meeting issues policy agenda
The 12th Provincial Meeting of Women, Lesbians, Travestis, Trans, and Non-Binary people concluded in Tolhuin, Tierra del Fuego, resulting in a comprehensive document of demands and policy proposals. Approximately 150 participants, including workers, students, and activists, gathered under the slogan “For the sovereignty of our bodies and territories, against inequalities, abuse, and oppression.”
The resulting five-page agenda targets the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of the province. Key demands include improved access to sexual and reproductive health, addressing shortages of contraceptives, and ensuring respectful childbirth. The participants also called for the effective implementation of Comprehensive Sexual Education (ESI), citing a need for better funding and teacher training.
Other central issues addressed include the enactment of an Integral Parity Law in Tierra del Fuego, judicial reforms to ensure a gender perspective and prevent re-victimization, recognition of care work, labor rights, disability access, and protections against digital violence. The next provincial meeting is scheduled to take place in Río Grande on October 2, 2027.
