Tierra del Fuego government offices face disruptions due to internet outage
A widespread internet outage in Tierra del Fuego has disrupted various provincial government offices, particularly in Río Grande. The connectivity failure has impacted the Civil Registry, hindering essential procedures for national and provincial systems, including DNI and passport management. Additionally, the Ministry of Public Works and Services has reported interference with administrative and technical tasks that rely on digital platforms.
The Ministry of Education has also been affected. Staff responsible for school supervision have faced difficulties using the Integral Educational Management System (SIGUE). Due to the inability to work via the official digital platform, some employees have been forced to work from home to utilize personal internet connections to complete administrative tasks.
The technical issues, attributed to the provider Movistar, forced the Ministry of Education to modify the registration process for the 01/26 Teacher Tenure Competition. Originally a strictly virtual process, the deadline was extended to October 7, and the administration allowed for paper-based and email submissions to ensure equal opportunity for applicants. The teachers' union, SUTEF, supported the inclusion of paper forms to protect the rights of educators during the digital outage.
