Tierra del Fuego Governor urges teachers to end strikes

Governor Gustavo Melella has called on the Unified Union of Fueguian Education Workers (SUTEF) to end their industrial action and return to the classroom. While acknowledging that teachers are facing significant challenges due to the loss of purchasing power, Melella stated that the provincial government is providing the “best possible increase” within its available financial resources.

The Governor emphasized that the administration maintains an open dialogue with the union and is engaged in continuous communication. He noted that the province cannot commit to salary hikes for which it lacks the necessary funds, citing previous economic difficulties in Tierra del Fuego as a reason to avoid unsustainable debt.
