Tierra del Fuego implements Bouchot mussel cultivation training

Thirty-four residents of Tierra del Fuego have completed an intensive training workshop on the ‘Bouchot’ mussel cultivation system. Organized by the Ministry of Production and Environment through the Maritime Activities Training and Education Center (CECAFMA), the three-day program focused on the mussel life cycle and tools required for both artisanal and industrial production.

The Bouchot method is an internationally recognized technique that aims to leverage the region's natural conditions to diversify the local productive matrix. Sebastián Gauna, director of CECAFMA, noted that the workshop encouraged significant knowledge exchange among participants and highlighted strong interest from women looking to enter the productive sector.

Officials believe the initiative will support the growth of mussel farming (mitiliculture) in the province, citing high global market demand for the resource and its compatibility with the region's existing environmental characteristics.
