Tierra del Fuego implements new road safety and lighting projects
Authorities in Tierra del Fuego are implementing new urban safety and infrastructure measures. In Río Grande, the municipality and local cycling associations have agreed on a plan to improve road safety for cyclists. Proposed measures include installing signage at critical urban points, adding speed reducers at intersections with bike lanes, and incorporating a specific road safety module for driver's license applicants.
Additionally, officials are planning communication campaigns to promote the use of safety gear like helmets and reflective elements. A mass cycling event is also being considered for November to increase visibility for cyclists.
In the provincial capital, Governor Ricardo Quintela inaugurated new lighting on Madre Teresa de Calcuta Avenue. The project, a collaboration between the province, the municipality, and the distributor EDELaR, involves 170 light fixtures and seven remote control panels. The work connects Malvinas Argentinas Avenue with Route 5, benefiting residents across nine neighborhoods by improving transitability and public space safety.
