Tierra del Fuego leaders address economic shifts and education funding
Political leaders in Tierra del Fuego are addressing economic shifts and budgetary challenges facing the province. Gastón Roma, president of the PRO in the region, emphasized the need to prepare for technological transformations, such as artificial intelligence and automation, which will impact both the private sector and public employment. Roma noted that the province must define a development model to attract investment in sectors like fishing, offshore hydrocarbons, wind energy, and tourism.
Simultaneously, legislative commissions are evaluating alternatives to secure funding for the education system. Legislator Von der Thusen reported that national government cuts to over 17 economic programs are affecting provincial development, particularly in education. The legislature plans to convene meetings to discuss budget reordering and new legislative tools to ensure basic services, including health and security, are maintained as the 2027 budget discussions approach.
