Tierra del Fuego legislator links falling birth rates to abortion laws
Natalia Gracianía, leader of the La Libertad Avanza bloc in the Tierra del Fuego legislature, has expressed concern regarding a significant decline in the province's birth rate. While acknowledging she lacks official statistics to establish a direct causal link, Gracianía noted reports suggesting a decrease in births of approximately 50%, placing Tierra del Fuego among the most affected jurisdictions.
Gracianía suggested that the implementation and promotion of the voluntary interruption of pregnancy law in Argentina may have had an influence on this trend. She also emphasized the need to analyze the issue through cultural and family factors, while calling for strengthened support for pregnant women in vulnerable situations and a review of existing public policies.
