Tierra del Fuego legislators support land regularization for Río Grande producers

Legislators in Tierra del Fuego have issued a favorable report on a project aimed at regularizing land ownership for more than 200 productive families in the Margen Sur area of Río Grande.

The initiative, proposed by Governor Gustavo Melella, seeks to declare three plots of the Macizo 67 area as being of public utility and subject to expropriation. This process is intended to provide legal security to families engaged in family agriculture and other productive activities who have worked the land for years.

Under the proposal, the land would be transferred through an onerous cession, meaning a financial payment is required, and specific restrictions would be implemented to ensure the land remains dedicated to productive use. Legislators Jorge Lechman and Federico Greve noted that while the report is a significant step, administrative and legal procedures must still be completed before property titles are officially issued.
