Tierra del Fuego releases first provincial greenhouse gas inventory
The Government of Tierra del Fuego has released its first public Provincial Greenhouse Gas Inventory (IPGEI) for the year 2022. Developed through a collaboration between the Directorate of Climate Change and Atmospheric Surveillance and the Provincial Institute of Statistical Analysis, Research, and Censuses (IPIEC), the report provides a detailed analysis of emissions across various sectors, including energy, industrial processes, agriculture, land use, and waste.
The 2022 inventory estimates total emissions at 3.3 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂eq). The energy sector remains the primary source of emissions in the province. This new report builds upon previous surveys from 2016 and 2018, establishing a historical series to track emission trends. Officials noted that the increased depth and quality of data allow for more precise planning of public policies related to climate change mitigation.
