Tierra del Fuego taxi owners propose extending vehicle service life
Taxi owners in Tierra del Fuego are proposing a modification to provincial regulations to extend the service life of taxi units. Fabián Lara, head of the Ushuaia Taxi Owners Association, stated that the initiative seeks to increase the maximum age of authorized vehicles from the current 10 years (with a one-year extension) to 13 years.
The proposal aims to align provincial law with national standards regarding Mandatory Technical Inspection (RTO) regulations. Lara noted that the project would require a provincial law and mentioned that the governor has reviewed similar models used in other jurisdictions, such as Mendoza, Mar del Plata, and parts of Santa Fe, where vehicle lifespans have been extended to 13, 14, or even 15 years.
