Turkey Justice Minister signals new internet journalism law

At the 13th Digital Media Workshop held in Iğdır, organized by the Turkish Internet Journalism Association (TİGAD), Justice Minister Akın Gürlek signaled the potential introduction of new legislation regarding internet journalism. Gürlek stated that the rapid expansion of digital media and the resulting issues with disinformation and information pollution have made a new legal framework a "necessity based on current needs." He emphasized the importance of establishing responsibility and accountability within the sector.

During the event, TİGAD President Okan Geçgel presented a proposal for the establishment of a "Turkey Journalists Union" to Minister Gürlek, aiming to protect professional rights and working standards in the digital age.

Approximately 140 journalists, media managers, and academics attended the workshop, which addressed topics such as the future of digital publishing and combating disinformation. As part of the program, participants visited local landmarks, including the Tuzluca Salt Caves and Rainbow Hills, to promote the region's tourism and cultural heritage.
