Tiger Brands and Stellenbosch University partner on agricultural research
Tiger Brands and Stellenbosch University have launched a three-year strategic research partnership to enhance the resilience, sustainability, and safety of South Africa’s food and agricultural systems.
The collaboration integrates the university’s research expertise with Tiger Brands’ experience across the food value chain. Key areas of focus include agronomy, agricultural economics, food science, microbiology, and chemistry. The initiative aims to improve on-farm productivity and profitability for essential crops such as wheat, tomatoes, oats, sorghum, groundnuts, and beans, particularly in regions facing water stress and climate vulnerability.
This partnership also supports postgraduate education and knowledge exchange through lectures, conferences, and seminars. Tiger Brands noted that 70% of its agricultural procurement spend is directed toward local producers, making the strengthening of local agricultural value chains a commercial and societal priority.
