Telecom and Millicom execute major brand transitions in Argentina and Colombia

Major telecommunications shifts are underway in Argentina and Colombia following significant corporate acquisitions. In Argentina, Telecom Argentina is transferring approximately 6 million mobile lines and 200,000 fixed internet connections to Metrotel. This divestment, valued at USD 450 million, is a regulatory requirement to finalize Telecom’s purchase of Telefónica de Argentina and ensure market competition. These customers will transition to the Tuenti brand through an automatic, phased process that preserves existing service plans, SIM cards, and credits.

In Colombia, Millicom (the parent company of Tigo) is integrating Movistar operations into its Tigo brand. This transition is part of a massive investment strategy, with Millicom committing a total of 13 billion pesos (approximately USD 2.6 billion) to the Colombian market over the next four years. The funds are earmarked for infrastructure modernization, including 5G expansion, fiber optic deployment, and increasing network capacity to meet rising data demands. While the brand identity is changing, existing service conditions and contracts for Movistar users are intended to remain intact.
