Tigray to be governed by federal command post for six months

A federal command post will govern the Tigray region for the next six months until elections are held, according to Getachew Reda, an advisor to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. Reda, a former president of the Tigray Interim Regional Administration, announced that the command post's primary objectives are to maintain security, uphold the rule of law, and oversee regional reconstruction.

Security in the region is expected to be managed jointly by the Ethiopian National Defense Force and the Tigray Peace Force. Reda stated that humanitarian aid will be permitted in areas controlled by these forces and that displaced persons from the disputed Western Tigray areas will be able to return to their homes. Following the six-month interim period, the National Election Board of Ethiopia is scheduled to conduct elections to establish a new regional government.

In a related development, Ethiopian Airlines has resumed commercial flights between Addis Ababa and Mekelle after a two-week suspension. The restoration of service to Alula Aba Nega International Airport marks a significant step for regional transportation, trade, and access to essential services and medical supplies.
