Tigre Council approves 20-story tower via zoning exception

The Tigre Deliberative Council has approved the construction of a 20-story tower on Ruta 27, located on the former site of the Northville School. This decision was made by granting an exception to a zoning ordinance passed only three months ago, which had established a maximum height limit of six stories for that specific corridor.

The measure passed with 12 affirmative votes, including nine council members aligned with Mayor Julio Zamora, one from Juntos por Tigre, and two from La Libertad Avanza. The authorization utilized Article 17 of the existing ordinance, a provision that allows the Council to approve specific exceptions for individual projects.

The decision faced opposition from the Fuerza Tigre bloc, led by Sebastián Rovira, as well as council members Juan Furnari and Josefina Pondé. Opponents argued that Article 17 acts as a loophole that undermines general urban planning limits, noting that the approval of such exceptions could allow developers to bypass established height restrictions through case-by-case negotiations.
