Tigres del Licey overcome Toros del Este in historic comeback
The Tigres del Licey staged a major comeback to defeat the Toros del Este 9-5 at the Francisco Micheli Stadium in La Romana. After trailing 5-0 in the early innings, the Licey offense erupted, scoring seven of their nine runs after two outs. Gustavo Núñez led the charge with a 5-3 performance including three RBIs, while Bryan Lavastida contributed two doubles and two RBIs.
The game was highlighted by Emilio Bonifacio reaching a career milestone by recording his 500th hit in the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM). Bonifacio, the team captain, became only the eighth player in Licey franchise history and the 23rd in LIDOM history to reach this mark during the regular season.
In addition to his milestone hit, Bonifacio continues to hold several franchise records, including most career runs scored and most stolen bases. To bolster their roster for the championship run, Licey also announced the signing of American outfielder Braiden Ward, formerly of the Boston Red Sox organization, noted for his high contact rate and speed.
