Tigress rescued in Assam after traveling 100 km from West Bengal

A three-year-old tigress, known as ‘Dooars Rani’ or BT1, has been successfully captured in Assam’s Kokrajhar district following a coordinated inter-state operation. The tigress had traveled approximately 100 km from the Buxa Tiger Reserve in West Bengal, crossing the Sankosh river to enter Raimona National Park.

Joint forest teams from West Bengal and Assam utilized elephants and excavators to corner the animal near Gelaguri village. The operation followed reports of the tigress approaching human settlements and killing livestock. To ensure public safety, local authorities had imposed restrictions on gatherings and unauthorized entry within a five-kilometer radius of the site.

After being tranquilized, the tigress underwent a medical examination and is being transported back to the Buxa Tiger Reserve in a specialized ambulance. Officials described the successful rescue as a significant example of inter-state cooperation between the forest departments of both regions.
