Tijjani Muhammad-Bande installed as District Head in Kebbi

The Gwandu Emirate Council in Kebbi State has conferred the traditional title of Baraden Besse, or District Head of Besse, upon Professor Tijjani Muhammad-Bande. The installation ceremony was conducted by the Emir of Gwandu, Maj.-Gen. Muhammad Iliyasu Bashar, at the Abdullahi Fodio Palace in Birnin Kebbi.

Professor Muhammad-Bande is a former Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and served as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations. He also previously held the position of President of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly and served as Vice-Chancellor of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.

During the ceremony, the Emir praised Muhammad-Bande for his humility and his decision to return to his roots to serve his community. In his response, Muhammad-Bande pledged to promote peace, security, and development within his jurisdiction and expressed loyalty to the Emirate Council and the Kebbi State Governor.
