Tijuana businesses face heavy losses from recurring power outages

Recurring power outages in Tijuana are causing significant economic damage to local businesses and residents. The restaurant sector, represented by CANIRAC Tijuana, reports that 95 percent of its members have suffered sales losses exceeding one million pesos. These interruptions, which have become weekly occurrences, affect various areas including Centro, Zona Río, Playas de Tijuana, and Madero.

In the Playas de Tijuana area, some businesses and homes have reported being without electricity for up to four or five days. Business owners have noted substantial losses due to spoiled food and equipment issues, with one cafe owner reporting a loss of 150,000 pesos. Residents have also struggled with extreme heat reaching 40 degrees Celsius during these outages.

Local business leaders and residents are demanding concrete solutions from the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) and federal authorities, citing infrastructure failures and rising electricity costs as major concerns. There are warnings that these ongoing costs and losses may force businesses to increase consumer prices.
