Tijuana City Council strengthens alcoholimetry enforcement rules

The Tijuana City Council has approved measures to strengthen the legal and technical framework of alcoholimetry operations. This decision follows a significant rise in administrative nullity lawsuits related to alcohol-related driving enforcement.

According to the Procurator's Office, 653 such lawsuits were filed in 2025. As of September 11, 2026, the number has reached 998, marking a 52 percent increase. Projections suggest that if this trend continues, the city could see approximately 1,440 cases by the end of the year, representing a 120 percent annual increase compared to 2025.

Procurator Teresita Balderas Beltrán stated that the new authorization aims to ensure road safety and provide a more legally solid administrative response. The goal is to protect lives and guarantee safe mobility under the General Law of Mobility and Road Safety, while addressing legal inequities and preventing recidivism.
