Tijuana expands water subsidy to over 12,600 vulnerable households

Mónica Vega Aguirre, director general of the Comisión Estatal de Servicios Públicos de Tijuana (CESPT), urged eligible residents to renew or apply for water‑bill subsidies. The program assists seniors, people with disabilities, pensioners, widows and single‑parent households with minor children. Currently 12,618 users benefit from the aid in Tijuana and Playas de Rosarito, and 31 social‑service organizations receive support to allocate more resources to the people they serve. The initiative is part of Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda’s effort to lessen the financial burden of basic services for vulnerable families.

Applicants must present proof of residence, a photo ID and complete a socio‑economic study conducted by CESPT staff. The subsidy applies regardless of whose name appears on the water account.
