Baja California police arrest dozens in crackdown on robbery, extortion and homicide

Security forces in Baja California and neighboring Mexican states carried out a series of arrests targeting violent and extortion crimes. In Ensenada, police detained four men accused of intimidation and illegal firearm possession after a prolonged neighbor dispute. In La Paz, three suspects were arrested, a 9 mm pistol was seized, and a package believed to contain illicit substances was secured during a joint operation by the navy and state police. In Tijuana, a woman was linked to a shoplifting case at the Minisso store and placed under preventive detention, while a separate investigation led to the capture of a suspected extortionist who had operated from Nuevo León. Authorities in Mexicali also secured prison orders for two men and a woman accused of aggravated extortion against the owner of Bazar Gaby. Tijuana police arrested a known violent offender, “El Cheche,” on weapons and robbery charges, connecting him to gang‑related activities such as racketeering and executions. Finally, Sonora and Baja California prosecutors collaborated to apprehend a fugitive wanted for attempted homicide linked to an October 2021 shooting in Ensenada.
