Tijuana hosts cultural works on migration and exile
Cultural events in Tijuana are highlighting themes of migration, exile, and identity through photography and film.
Universidad Iberoamericana Tijuana is hosting a photographic exhibition titled ‘Las fotos que todavía no existen. Una mirada a la migración en Tijuana’ by photojournalist Alejandro Cossío. The exhibition, which includes a talk by Cossío, focuses on the daily lives, shelters, and border experiences of people in transit. Cossío is a veteran journalist whose work has appeared in international outlets such as The New York Times and Agence France-Presse.
Additionally, the film ‘Tijuana todavía,’ directed by Gabriel Gutiérrez Morales, explores the intersection of displacement and identity. Produced by Humberto Bustamante, the film follows the stories of two individuals—a Russian youth seeking refuge from persecution and a Mexican man—to examine the complexities of the LGBT experience and the impact of exile.
