Tijuana infrastructure: Deputies propose transport and safety reforms
Legislators in Baja California are proposing urgent infrastructure and mobility improvements in Tijuana to address public safety and accessibility concerns.
Deputy Gabriela Ponce Velázquez has submitted a proposal to the Institute of Sustainable Mobility of Baja California (IMOS) and the Tijuana City Council to expand public transportation coverage in the Arboleda section of the Natura developments. The initiative seeks technical studies to establish new routes and bus stops, addressing a lack of access to work, education, and health services in the area, which has been identified as a priority zone by the Tijuana Metropolitan Planning Institute (IMPLAN).
Separately, Deputy Yohana Gilvaja has called for immediate intervention on Bulevar 2000 in Tijuana due to a high frequency of fatal accidents. Gilvaja highlighted that only 22% of the road is currently illuminated, posing a significant risk to citizens. An exhortation was approved to urge the State Governor and the Secretary of Infrastructure, Urban Development, and Land Management to implement a special mobility and security program for high-accident roads to prevent further loss of life.
