Tijuana infrastructure efforts focus on water stability and flood prevention

Infrastructure management and flood prevention efforts are being prioritized in the Tijuana metropolitan area. The Tijuana State Public Services Commission (CESPT) has implemented nighttime monitoring of water distribution infrastructure, including the Obrera III tank, to ensure stable supply and pressure for approximately 79,000 residents, particularly during high-consumption heat seasons.

Simultaneously, experts are advising against removing concrete channeling from the Tijuana River. Eduardo Sánchez, executive director of the Tijuana River Initiative, stated that returning the river to its natural state would cause soil erosion, threatening the stability of homes, main avenues, and critical urban infrastructure on both sides of the border. Additionally, uncontrolled vegetation growth in the riverbed near the Abelardo L. Rodríguez dam is noted as a risk that could reduce hydraulic capacity and increase flooding risks during heavy rains.
