Tijuana migrants protest ICE enforcement methods

Members of the Alianza Migrante Tijuana held a protest in Plaza Constitución to demand justice for Mexican nationals who have died in U.S. detention centers or during immigration enforcement operations.

Protesters burned piñatas depicting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, labeled with terms such as “savage,” “traitor,” and “murderer,” to express rejection of aggressive detention methods. Activist José María García Lara stated that while organizations do not dispute the authority of U.S. officials to perform their duties, they are protesting "the forms that are unfortunately getting out of control."

According to figures from the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), 17 Mexican deaths have been recorded in various U.S. states—including Arizona, California, Florida, and Texas—since May 2025. The group is calling on the Mexican government to strengthen consular protection and address the root causes of migration, such as security issues and lack of economic opportunities.
